We covered the end of Jeremiah, the book of Lamentations and the beginning of the book of Ezekiel. These chapters describe Jeremiah's efforts to preach repentance and save the Jews from impending Babylonian captivity, illustrate his sorrow for their wickedness, and explain Ezekiel's call to minister to the Israelites in captivity in Babylon. The central theme of these verses is simple and constant but powerful -- the Lord gives us prophets, warnings and commandments, we still make mistakes, but redemption and 'gathering' our in our future if we repent and keep the commandments. A few highlights from the week:
- Watching President Monson's talk about "choosing the harder right" from this last conference to illustrate prophetic parallels between the book of Jeremiah and today
- Writing acrostic poems -- the style used to write "Lamentations" in Hebrew -- that used the first letters of each of our names to discuss sin & repentance. Some were hilarious. Some were poignant. Some were very hard to interpret. All were creative. Sorry that I didn't capture some of them here for posterity's sake.
- Discussing Ezekiel's vision of "eating the scroll" in Ezekiel 3:1-3 and having a really great class discussion on what it means to internalize the word of God
